  • Daniel Plews, PhD

    Sports scientist specializing in physiology, and is a Senior Research Fellow Auckland University.  Dan completed his Ph.D. in the area of applied heart rate variability (HRV) in athletes.  Dan has gone onto having more than 60 peer-reviewed publications in the area of applied sports science and exercise physiology. Dan is seriously passionate about endurance sport, and has worked work with more than 30 Olympic and World champions in the sports of rowing, kayaking and sailing. However, his lifelong passion is Ironman triathlon, and is the coach of the 2022 IM World Championships, Chelsea Sodaro, as well as 9 time world Champion Javier Gomez, Jan Van Berkel and Pablo Depena.  He lives and breathes the sport, and in 2018 he himself broke the amateur course record at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, Kona in 8 hours 24 minutes.

  • Jose Ordovas, PhD

    Dr. Ordovás is a Professor of Nutrition and Genetics at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and a Professor at the School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University.

    His research focuses on developing precision nutrition to prevent and treat age-related chronic diseases, such as heart disease, obesity, and type-2 diabetes. He has published well over 900 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has written numerous reviews and books on these topics. Dr. Ordovás has received multiple national and international honors throughout his career for his scientific achievements, including the USDA Secretary’s Award. He is a member of numerous government and industry scientific advisory boards.

  • Job Godino, PhD

    Associate Research Scientist at UC San Diego and director of a deep phenotyping laboratory.

    Dr. Godino is an expert in the development and evaluation of programs that utilize digital health technologies to promote healthy changes in physical activity, sedentary behavior, diet, and sleep for the prevention of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Much of his research funded by the National Institutes of Health focuses on the development and evaluation of interventions that utilize mobile and wearable technology (e.g., smartphones, accelerometers, and heart rate monitors) to promote healthy changes in behavior. Dr. Godino serves as the Scientific Director of the Laura Rodriguez Research Institute and Director of Quality Improvement and Innovation at Family Health Centers of San Diego, the largest federally qualified health center in San Diego. He received his PhD in epidemiology from the University of Cambridge and completed postdoctoral training in the epidemiology and biostatistics of aging at Johns Hopkins University.

  • David Black, PhD

    PhD Adjunct Associate Professor at Vanderbilt.

    Dr. Black was a Fellow of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (F-ABFT) and a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemists (FAIC). Dr. Black was Department Head and Director of Toxicology for Maryland Medical Laboratory, Inc. from 1982- 1986. He joined Vanderbilt University in 1986 as Assistant Professor with appointments in Pathology and Pharmacology. Dr. Black was a Clinical Associate Professor with an appointment. In 1990 Dr. Black founded Aegis Sciences Corporation where he served as Chairman and CEO until October of 2016. Aegis provided services as a forensic chemical and drug testing laboratory specializing in Zero-Tolerance Drug Testing® (proprietary process), employee drug testing (SAMHSA), professional and amateur athlete drug testing (Doping Control), food/supplement analysis, pain management compliance testing, crime scene evidence analysis, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and post-mortem evaluations. Dr. Black has also authored numerous peer reviewed published scientific papers.
